South Shore Filmmakers Meetup, featuring Screenwriter/Director/Producer Mike Messier. Filmed at the HCAM-TV Studio in
Hingham, MA on August 12th, 2015. Mike discusses the process of creating his short film The Nature of the Flame from idea to the film festival circuit.
Mike Messier (www.mikemessier.com) has won eleven awards in film and local television. Messier Moment is a web-series that features Mike and exciting celebrities. Messier Mantra is a long form interview show, that digs deep into the spirits and passions of artists and holistic healers. As an Actor, Messier has a principle role in the USA Network film Hard Luck, as the son of a character played by Cybill Shepherd with a fight scene with Wesley Snipes and Mario Van Peebles. Messier shares a scene with Meryl Streep and Elisabeth Shue in the theatrical release Hope Springs.
Messier is also an experienced Acting Coach having worked with students from age nine to seventy-three. Messier's work as Writer/Director includes the award winning short films The Nature of the Flame. The Actor and Thanksgiving. Mike won a screenwriting Award from the Rhode Island International Film Festival for Fight or Play Basketball.
Mike's passion for Professional Wrestling has lead him to wrestle himself and to associate with top stars like Kevin Nash aka Diesel. Mike even worked as an on-set bodyguard for the 7 foot tall, 350lb Nash on the set of Blue Line, starring Tom Sizemore. Mike is near completion of Disregard the Vampire - a Mike Messier Documentary, a mind-blowing and heart-bending look at the life of this young filmmaker and evolving artist.
The artist must challenge the audience in order to be an artist at all. Without challenge, there is no conflict, no victory, no art. Great work takes time and time is such an enemy isn't it? To suspend one's expectation of time is a severe achievement. It takes longer to make a steak than a hamburger. On the flip-side of this ancient coin is the war on self-pity, stifling, censorship and procrastination. No art is perfect, that's why it is art. Some artists have the benefit of being encouraged from family and friends. Some people are even born into an artistic lineage or royalty. That is a great luxury as society welcomes - even expects - these second and third generation "entertainment celebrities" to share some type of relevant insight with us, whether earned or not. For the rest of us, the fight to be known, to be appreciated and to be understood will be a life-time battle. Keep your cool and don't let the bastards grind you down. Live in the moment and die in the memory. As we all must eventually lay in that cool, dark grave, we will know that we achieved great things and those same grinding bastard did nothing of significance. Their greatest achievement in life will be as a footnote to ours. Challenge the audience. Be yourself. Never surrender. - MIKE MESSIER
